Tried to imitate clay sculpture in 3d. This one is modeled after a small clay elephant.
Clay sculpture is a big part of Bangladeshi heritage. But the people who make them doesn't get paid much for their dedication. Hope some day we'll learn to pay respect to the artists...

Modeled in 3ds max.
Displacement added in Z-brush.
Border added in PS.

You should have used Displacement instead of bump mapping.

You are right... hey can you tell me how i can convert normal maps to displacement maps?
otherwise i'll have to paint it all over again :(

What do you mean convert a noram map to displace ment?

Displacement works just like a bump map, white and black. White raises an area, black lowers.

You didn't get my point...
I used "normal-bump" maps... which are color maps, where each pixel holds a tangent value, rather than displacement amount :)
so if there's a way to convert the tangents to displacements that would save me some time :)

Oh, that would be photoshop work, just turn it to grayscale then adjust it after that. I don't know of any shortcut to convert them.

normal maps store different kind of information than ordinary bump maps...
